There is a wider phenomenon here: journalists tend to cover stories the describe things they don't like, sometimes described as "what bleeds, leads".

When Boston had some years with huge snowfalls, the Boston Globe would write stories on towns having budget shortfalls as a result of increased snow clearing. I complained that there were no stories of towns having unexpected cash in years of low snowfalls. To their credit, the Globe obliged by writing such a story.

Despite the bad incentives, there are some people with real integrity in journalism.
