I accessed this site this morning specifically to recommend Charles Covit's Crimson article, but I see Ira Stoll is up even earlier than I. It is unusual that I would recommend anything from the Crimson, but this one is important. The funding of The Center for Middle East Studies is a central issue, not just for Harvard but for many other top universities.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how Harvard's behind the times pro-Hamasniks react to the wonderful news of Hassan Nasrallah's demise, along with who knows how many other top Hezbollah's leaders. I sense that Netanyahu and Israel have now broken with the effort to appease the pressures of their supposed allies and are going for broke. What has happened in Lebanon since the "Liver to the Knee" beeper caper of a few days ago seems to me a remarkable new chapter in Israeli self-defense. I hope. Look forward to hearing Ira Stoll's take on that and on Harvard's take on it.

Covit was one of the speakers at last Sunday's Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance event. It is good to see that there is some overlap between the views expressed at the HJAA event and in the Crimson.

Another of the talks at the HJAA event, by Dara Horn, is summarized in Horn's WSJ op-ed: https://www.wsj.com/opinion/harvards-antisemitism-begins-in-the-classroom-jews-israel-education-e281604a

Derek Penslar self identifies as a Zionist. Maybe not to your liking but he does. A lot of us criticize Israel as an act of intellectual integrity but also out of love for Israel.

The material to which Ira Stoll linked about Penslar (https://x.com/IraStoll/status/1748441987861057760) is quite damning. As an example, why did Penslar blast the questioner who asked "about Jews being indigenous and returning to their homeland in Israel rather than “settler colonalists”? A more thoughtful reply would be to respond as I did to that issue in https://www.jns.org/genetics-can-bring-jews-and-arabs-together/

The content of Netanyahu's speech was excellent, but the quality of the delivery was below Netanyahu's usual and Netanyahu looked tired. This is not surprising because the accounts of Netanyahu's flight to NYC make it sound like Netanyahu didn't get much sleep.

It is notable that the חִזְק֣וּ וְאִמְצ֔וּ (strong and resolute) quote was also used in the Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance event last Sunday. The same theme without the quote was also used in the event, and the Editors post about the event highlighted this in the title of the post. It is a good "peace through strength" quote.

Netanyahu is holding in his left hand a representation of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

At the G20 summit held in New Delhi in September 2023, the leaders of France, Germany, India, Italy, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and the European Commission unveiled the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

The timing of the October 2023 attack was not, as they say, an accident.
